Timeline of Technology

Here is a visual timeline of a lot technology and how its changed and progressed right from the start.

I enjoyed this video as it shows not just the obvious and popular technology changes but also the small technology changes that no one talks about such as the graphics and the moving animations. I was surprised at how fast many media websites were created from 2002 to 2006. Not as surprised as I was about the look of the first phone. Such a block. They have change so much as they have gotten smarter and thinner.

I think that this video would be ideal for use in a primary school classroom to show children about the changes and technology and also where it began. Its visual and simple. Many children would be surprised of the technology back when it was new compared to technology these days.

The Generation of Play Stations

Over the years there have been many versions of the playstation game console, each one has changed in its size, memory capacity, and also the graphics of the actual games. My generation age have seen all of the Playstations, i personally remember having a playstation one and i was so excited when i got one, but the first one doesn't compare the the new ones in every way.

Playstation one, came out in 1994.

Playstation two, came out in 2000.

Playstation three, came out in 2006.
Playstation four, came out in 2013.

As you can see the playstations have changed over the years, there is also going to be a playstation five coming out but no one knows when or what it will look like.

No technology?

Here is a school that has no technology whatsoever in it. Also in this video says about the parents views of sending their child to a school like this.

I found this video interesting as i thought that all schools had technology in them and also that most parents don't mind their children using technology. This video shows that children don't need technology to learn well. An advantage of children going to school is that they will learn more practical skills and activities as this is what their lessons are based on. Also because of their lesson plans they will also learn to maybe communicate better as they will be doing more teamwork than an average school. Although a disadvantage to going to this school would be that the children may not have access to technology anywhere else much so therefore they could fall behind in society when they leave school as society is based around technology.

Helping the Older Generation

Many adults today understand technology as they have their children or even grandchildren to help them, but there are also other ways for the older generation to learn how to use and understand technology.

Many towns hold classes for adults to learn how to use a computer and how to write an email and so on. These computer training courses are useful for adults who don't understand as it can help them to wonder into the technology world, as technology is a way of life to generations of my age.

I personally have helped my mother and grandparents with technology. Some people pick up the tips and some people will just never understand. For example my nan doesn't have a clue when it comes to technology and she would rather not know about it too. Where as my grandfather loves learning about new technology, so much that he has gone out and bought laptops and an iPad.

Many adults may love to go to these classes to not just learn about the technology but also to make friends, they can also then keep in touch with these friends by using technology such as emails.

Should children be allowed a mobile phone or not?

I think that a much debated subject within technology these days between parents is whether they should allow their child to have  a mobile phone or not?
I found a website where there is a healthy debate going on about this subject. Most parents agree that children should be allowed a mobile phone but there also a small amount that disagree.

I personally think that a child should be allowed a phone when they personally reach the age of when they are mature enough to know how to use it responsibly. I had a phone at the age of 9 years old but I only used this to play games on, i didn't have a phone with credit on until i was 11 years old and had started secondary school. This was the age that my mother felt i should have one, mostly because i had started secondary school and started going out with friends so she could contact me.
Children should be taught the advantages of having a phone and also the dangers of having a phone before being allowed a phone i think. The advantages are so that the parent can contact their child to know where they are and that they are safe when they go out. Unfortunately a disadvantage is that the children need to learn that they must not give their number out too any strangers as this could be themselves in danger.

Reliable or Unreliable?

In order to find a reliable and resourceful website there are many steps to follow.

First of all you must decide is it for an academic reason or purely for pleasure?

Once you have found a website to suit your reason of use you must be sure that you understand the URL at the end of the web address. When looking through the website you should look for different aspects to know that it is reliable. These are aspects such as links within the website and what they lead you to, the last time the website was updated and also the author or organisation.

You can check out the website to find out who owns it and also are there any other websites linked into it. This website is easyWhois

YOU need to decide whether the website is reliable or not for the purpose of the use!

Technology is Changing

Another video that i found inspirational and yet i was also amazed by is a video called Technology - Changes.

I found this video interesting as i was shocked to see how fast technology has changed over the years and how fast its going to continue to change. It also showed me how much different websites are growing and developing so fast. Also it showed how many people actually use these sites now compared to many years ago for when they first started. I think sometimes that the world is struggling to keep up with the pace of how fast technology is changing and how new inventions happen all the time.

An Aspect of Web 2: bubbl.us

There are many pros and cons to web 2 and the different aspects, the aspect that i have used myself and feel could be useful with education is bubbl.us. This website is for making mind maps which is very useful when planning assignments or for revision. This website is free, easy to use and also interesting to make. The good thing about this website is that when you want to add to or change your mind map you can always go back and do what you want. Another good thing about this site is that you don't have to just do it on the laptop at home, you can now do it on the go if you download the app. Unfortunately this app is only available on apple so if you have an android phone or tablet then you cannot get this app. Also another con of this website is that you can only do so many mind maps for free and then after that you have to pay. On the plus side whilst paying you get other options to add to your mind map to make it more creative and educational for your use. Overall i would recommend this site for any student to use as it is useful for any topic.

An Inspirational Video about Blending Technology and Education

A video that i found inspirational was a talk by Jessie Woolley-Wilson, she talks about blending technology with education.

This video has inspired me because it showed me how much of a difference children using technology within their learning can make, especially when the teacher has a big cass, as mentioned in this video. This video makes the future practitioners, like me, understand the importance of implementing and providing the children and young access to different tools and types of technology. It will broaden their knowledge and also the way they learn and think about subjects with the technology area. I think that it is important to blend education with technology as the younger and older generations need to know and understand about the different types of technology. this is because technology is always changing, and fast, which means it is becoming a bigger part of our daily lives.

Blog Review: Box Of Tricks

The blog that i am going to review is called Box of Tricks. This blog that i have found i think is good and very useful because it provides tips and advice of different teaching methods  when using ICT for teachers and teaching assistants. I feel that having this blog as part of my blog will give myself and also others to also gain tips and advice from it. it can help myself and fellow students to improve our practice within school settings when it comes to using ICT. This blog is important for people to read i think as it talks about and is based on using technology within classrooms, and using technology within classrooms is what happens today as it is always increasing. This blog mentions may useful tools that can be used by teachers and also students which can improve their practice and learning when using technology. For example on tool that this blog mentions is called Glogster. This is used to create and share posters, videos ect. This will be useful for teachers as they can use this as part of the lesson, whether this means them making one for the lesson plan and using it within the lesson to teach the children about using this site, whilst learning about the technology involved within it.

Animation Website

Is this website useful in an educational context?

http://www.abcya.com/animate.htm

After looking around the website and testing it, this is what we thought:
It is easy to look around the website and make an animation. This website is very basic and colourful so therefore it would be ideal for children. An adult should be there with the child especially if the child is young because it can be complicated. It is not possible to embed the animation however it can be saved onto your computer. The clip art has a wide range of pictures that could be used for all premade backgrounds and can be moved around with ease, making the pictures too small can make the pictures pixelated.
Drawing your own pictures is possible but the paintbrushes are a bit too big for the space provided. Copying frames is easy and can be changed with ease if you decide to change the first frame.
In all it is a good starter animation website which is aimed for children with its sounds when clicking on the different options, this could be a good idea for children aged around 6-7, any younger needs adult supervision because not all the options are easily guessed in the eyes of a younger child.
